About Add+VantageMR® Courses
These professional development courses focus on early numeracy development. Add+VantageMR® (AVMR) supports elementary educators, special education instructors, math interventionists, and math coaches in diagnosing and advancing student understanding and numeracy development. The assessment, data collection, and teaching tools are designed to accelerate the ability of educators to recognize students' current levels of numeracy understanding to make data-driven instructional decisions.
- Add+VantageMR® Course 1 (AVMR 1): Foundational learning of whole number topics such as number words and numerals, structuring numbers, addition and subtraction, and topics that affect the development of future mathematical understanding. The topics and domains covered often appear later on as holes in understanding for older struggling students.
- Add+VantageMR® Course 2 (AVMR 2): Expand and deepen knowledge and understanding of the mathematical development for all students by implementing diagnostic assessments for multiplication and division and place value understanding.
- Add+VantageMR® Fractions (AVMR Fractions): Explore how students develop concepts and strategies with fractions to support algebraic reasoning and applying operations.
During these professional learning opportunities, participants will be actively involved in rich discussions around students' mathematical thinking. Participants leave the course ready to work with students and implement new knowledge in their teaching practices to meet the needs of a diverse range of students.

Who are these courses recommended for?
Add+VantageMR® courses are recommended for K-8 classroom teachers, special education teachers, Title I teachers, English language learner teachers, para-professionals, instructional coaches, or administrators.
Should a K-2 or primary teacher take Add+VantageMR® Course 2?
Yes, many foundational skills and concepts for multiplication, division, and place value are introduced and developed in the primary grades. It is essential to understand where primary students are headed in their mathematics education.
Are Add+VantageMR® Course 1 and Course 2 available virtually or only offered in face-to-face format?
Courses offered by US Math Recovery Council® (USMRC) have both virtual and face-to-face options. No matter the format the courses have the same essential learnings and outcomes.
What is the time commitment for Virtual Add+VantageMR® Course 1 and Course 2?
Both Add+VantageMR courses consist of 8 sessions. You can expect 120 mins of online synchronous, collegial sessions with approximately an additional 60 mins following each session that includes self-paced on-line learning modules, course reading, and time to implement assessments and instructional activities with students. The follow-up work is expected to be completed prior to the start of the next session.
What is the time commitment for Add+VantageMR® Fractions?
You can expect eight 2 hour sessions of online collegial meetings with approximately an additional 60 - 90 mins a week that includes self-paced on-line learning modules, course reading, and time to implement assessments and instructional activities with students.
What if a participant needs to miss a day of the professional development?
The teacher should not enroll or sign up for the course.
Can I take Add+VantageMR® courses with a colleague?
Of course! Learning with others is always a great experience. To ensure and enhance your own learning you must have your own dedicated space and computer during the online professional development sessions. To get a Purchase Order for multiple attendees, contact us.
What do I need to host a face-to-face Add+VantageMR® Course 1 or Course 2?
To hold an in-district training for Add+VantageMR® Course 1 or Course 2 you need 15 participants per course, a training room (with projector and high-quality audio options), 4 consecutive days, students to conduct assessments with on the morning of day 3 of course, and video equipment capable of collecting and viewing video. Cost is $1050 per participant (this includes all costs due to US Math Recovery). To secure an Instructional Coach and a date to hold your training we require a signed service agreement and completing an online course proposal form. We will need a PO for the full training amount of $1050 per participant four weeks before the training starts which gives us the green light to send all kits. This PO will be processed once the class begins.
Is there a discount for additional participants beyond the minimum of 15?
Group pricing is available; please contact a Customer Service Specialist for more information. Additional cost-savings can be found if you have a certified in-district Math Recovery Add+VantageMR® Champion.
Is there a maximum number of participants allowed in an Add+VantageMR® course?
We cap face-to-face Add+VantageMR® Courses at 28 participants and virtual Add+VantageMR® Courses at 20 participants.
Can we reach out to an Add+VantageMR® Champion from another district to conduct a course in our district?
USMRC does not allow Add+VantageMR® Champions to provide trainings outside of their school district, unless they are employed by USMRC or contracted by the USMRC to do so. All contracted Add+VantageMR® trainings in districts that don't have an Add+VantageMR® Champion need to be coordinated through the USMRC office. Districts without an Add+VantageMR® Champion are allowed to host participants from districts without, but again these arrangements should be made through the USMRC.
